The College Wants My Body!!! - Required physical/immunization for admission to an EMT class.

I am enrolled in a EMT course at a NC community college. I have recently been given an medical history form, proof of immunization form, and a physical to be completed by a doctor or nurse practitioner. I was told that failure to complete any of these will result in me being removed from the course.

I am pretty sure I can get out of the immunizations with my religious exemption affidavit.

For the physical I can see the necessity of some questions such as ones pertaining to back problems, knee problems, asthma etc. as the class does have a physical component, but I definitely don't plan on letting a doctor check my boobs or lady parts for abnormalities....seriously now how is that going to affect my ability to perform in the course! On top of that they want a full history....again how is my overweight sister having diabetes going to affect my ability to preform in the course!!!!!

A few questions for anyone who has more info on this than me....

1) Can you claim religious exemption to refuse TB tests/X-rays. It seems like this falls into the same category.

2) Is there a way to refuse parts or all of a physical/medical history and still be admitted to a state college?

I know that this varies by state, but any info would be useful, particularly because I am ready to fight them tooth and nail on this. I would really prefer to just take this course, but I'll create one heck of a headache for them if they decide they need to know how normal my private parts are for my participation.

for question you dont want to answer or do write:

Amendment 4 - Search and Seizure. Ratified 12/15/1791.
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

The institution is trying to seize information with out due process with the punishment being not being enrolled in a public college. contact ACLU.

Right On!

You are right on Light4Jesus. This is actually one of the main reasons I want to take some medical classes. I want to keep my children away from the doctors and ER whenever I can. I figure if I can educate myself and learn as much as I can, I can cut those inevitable visits to a minimum, not to mention lend a hand for friends and neighbors too.

I am becoming convinced that the EMS and Fire and Rescue People carry the same attitude as a lot of police officers. (This is a generalization I know. There are some fantastic people with these jobs, but I am just talking about a general attitude I get from a lot of them.) This may be different in different parts of the country but here in the rural southeast it is pretty ugly. I'll be curious to learn more assuming I can get all of this medical stuff taken care of.

Invasion of privacy and our right to be free from harm

This is just one more way to assure that we are ALL SICK. Do you not recall the percentage of gulf war veterans that are now disabled or dead?
All the autistic children?

Since I've had lupus for 40 years, I read a lot about health and natural remedies. Ran across information about mycoplasma the other day. Some scientists believe it is what is causing MS, CFS, lupus, and a host of other diseases.

Entertain for a moment, that we are dealing with people with an agenda. People that believe the world is overpopulated and want to get rid of a large percent of human beings. Is it possible that they would use mycoplasma in vaccines for their own ends? I mean, if you think no, well ask yourself a few questions. Who was Hitler? Was he real? Did he do cruel and unusual and almost unbelievable things?

We are not sure who we are dealing with, but things are definitely going on that should NOT be.

Consider that cancer was almost unheard of one hundred years ago. Consider, congress allowing poisons in our food and water, yet claim that everything they do is for our "good". Try googling flouride and concentration camp prisoners and see what you find.

Think about it. Is all this just happenstance or are we dealing with an unseen enemy? Ever hear of Operation Paperclip?

I sure would not allow anyone to inject me with anything if I could help it.

I must say I'm a little

I must say I'm a little disappointed by some of the responses. Just to address a few.

-If you think not all vaccines are bad that is fine, but for attendance to any state school they should not be required it is my choice based on my beliefs and research.

-TB has some very obvious symptoms: coughing up blood/ chest infection, severe weight loss, night sweats, and constant exhaustion. Additionally it targets very specific populations namely immuno-compromised individuals, drug users, transplant recipients, steroid users, etc. Additionally an allergic reaction could make you "test positive" This would mean a ton of toxic antibiotics and chest x-ray and then the school would still have to admit you to the program based on the Americans with Disabilities Act. I've seen what ACTIVE TB looks like and trust me you would know it if someone had it.

-In case anyone was wondering the TB prick test is NOT VEGETARIAN.

-This is a course where I will not be treating real patients. This cannot be for someone else protection.

-While there may be grounds to not hire me there is no grounds not to allow me to be educated.

Not all vaccines are bad

just saying

If it is required for you

If it is required for your protection it may not be manditory but if it is to protect others from you then you may have no choice.you-no

see to your liberty

Standard Stuff

I Went through EMT Certification a couple of years ago through North Seattle Commuity College. This is standard practice for many reasons. No big deal.

The TB test is not an immunization

It is only a skin prick, and even my sensitive little self never had any reactions to them. I believe it is required to be in any healthcare job.

As for the physical, I would clarify exactly how extensive they require before paying tuition.

Thank you for wanting to help people. Please understand you will probably have a very hard time making a living as an EMT. email me if you want details, my husband was a paramedic for years, and had to get out of the field to make a living.

Gnarlemagne, if you were injured in an accident,

would you want a TB-infected EMT (who was able to refuse a TB test) rendering assistance to you?

... just askin'.

Just a guess, but

the TB test sounds reasonable since TB is a contagious disease and seems to be appearing much more frequently. But, a boob check and pelvic exam is taking it too far and completely unnecessary.
