Update: The "filibuster" is over.
The minority leader spoke for well over an hour when he had only 4 minutes when he began speaking.
There was a parliamentary inquiry and the decision was he can talk as long as he wants.
He read the bulk of the 309 page amendment and make extended comments about them. Good for him!
Way to go Rep. John Boehner R-Ohio! We're all watching!

Thank you for contacting me regarding H.R. 2998, the American Clean Energy and Security Act. I appreciate hearing from you on this important issue and welcome the opportunity to respond.
As you know, energy policy impacts our national security and our economy. This legislation will implement a set of clean energy strategies that will help the State of Florida and the entire country advance our commitment to energy independence and economic security. After meeting with experts in these fields and hearing from many individuals and businesses in South Florida, I voted to support the American Clean Energy and Security Act. This legislation passed the House by a recorded vote of 219 to 212.
PROTECTING OUR NATIONAL SECURITY
My most sacred responsibility as a member of Congress is to protect our national security, and most people understand that our dependence on oil has played a dramatic role in how we have shaped our foreign policy. Currently, the U.S. imports 60 percent of its oil from unstable countries around the world that in many cases are financing terrorism and drug trafficking with our petro-dollars. As you may know, our local community gets much of its power from oil-generated plants, and I believe that a transition to new sources of energy will ensure that we do not continue to send billions of dollars to countries that are at best, not our friends, and at worst, our enemies. My strongest belief is that we should never again have to make foreign policy decisions based on where the next drop of oil is coming from.
By offering incentives for more energy efficient businesses, homes, and vehicles, H.R. 2998 will help the United States break its addiction to foreign oil. Specifically, the legislation invests $20 billion in research and development of electric and other advanced technology vehicles, including battery technology, where U.S. innovation has lagged. My conversations with energy experts have indicated, and I agree, that we cannot afford to trade our dependence on oil for a dependence on foreign technology.
This legislation cuts our use of foreign oil by more than 5 million barrels a day by 2030 - as much as we currently import from the Middle East and Venezuela - when combined with vehicle efficiency and biofuel standards enacted in 2007 and updated by President Obama. This is an urgent matter of national security, and it will not wait.
GROWING JOBS IN A NEW ENERGY ECONOMY
Unleashing private sector investment in clean energy creates new jobs in Florida that can't be shipped overseas, making America the global innovation leader. This legislation makes critical investments in new energy technologies that we can produce in Florida, like solar and ocean energy. H.R. 2998 also makes substantial investments in energy efficiency and clean coal technology and gives important loan guarantees to boost clean nuclear power.
Additionally, H.R. 2998 creates new markets that will grow clean energy jobs. By 2020, our country will be producing 20% of its power from renewable sources, and this spurs investment in these new energy technologies.
Furthermore, the legislation establishes new standards for energy efficiency, requiring new buildings to be 30% more efficient in 2012 and 50% more efficient in 2016. More energy efficient buildings will lower energy costs and reduce the amount of energy we use.
Florida needs an economic boost right now. The jobs created by this bill will reinvigorate our businesses and our workforce.
DEFENDING CONSUMERS and FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY
There have been some gross exaggerations and mischaracterizations by both proponents and opponents of this bill. Some argue that the legislation will raise your energy costs. This is simply not true. In fact, there are five separate programs in this legislation to ensure that the transition to a clean energy economy includes consumer protections so that you will see no impact to your bottom line.
Additionally, the energy efficiency provisions in the legislation could save $750 per household by 2020 and $3,900 per household by 2030, according to an analysis by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE). I believe that H.R. 2998 is a fiscally responsible bill with crucial consumer protections.
Negotiations of this plan brought businesses from all around the country, both energy producers and energy consumers, to the table. Leading companies like Johnson & Johnson, PepsiCo, and General Electric (GE) are looking for market certainty so that they know where to make the smartest investment for the future of their businesses. Small and large businesses alike agree: the time is now to make a down payment on energy independence. H.R. 2998 will help accomplish this important goal.
My vote for this legislation builds on my longtime, strong commitment to finding common-sense energy solutions and creating new jobs in the energy sector, including important provisions in the recently passed American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, including:
o Over $2.3 billion in tax credits for businesses pursuing the production of renewable energy, energy storage, energy conservation, efficient transmission and distribution of electricity.
o $11 billion to create new jobs to modernize the electricity grid, making our country more energy efficient.
o $2 billion for families to make their homes more energy efficient. Individual families could save up to $1500 for home improvements.
o $4.5 billion to create new jobs to increase energy efficiency in government buildings, alternative fuel trucks and buses, and energy-saving appliances.
o $12 billion for energy research, such as wind and solar, to produce cutting edge technology to achieve energy independence.
o $2 billion to manufacture the next generation of advanced vehicle batteries systems. This provision will create thousands of new American jobs, helping America to leapfrog the technology of today and focus on speedily deploying the technology of the future.
o $13 billion in tax credits for facilities that produce wind, biomass, geothermal, hydropower, and other renewable energy technologies.
o $2,500 tax credit for the purchase of plug-in electric cars to spur the market, create new jobs and save local jobs that are tied to the auto industry.
Our country needs bold ideas and innovative solutions to our energy crisis. I have always believed that the same American ingenuity that took us to the moon can find the solutions that America needs now.

Just The Latest Betrayal By Criminal Politicians
This is just one more example of the fact that many of our politicians will betray us whenever they can promote themselves. They did this with NAFTA. They did it with the Patriot Act and the creation of the Department of Homeland Terrorism.
They did it almost a century ago with the creation of the Federal Reserve System. Their attitude can be summed with "to hell with the Constitution and to hell with the American people".
Look at the bright side.
Cap and Trade will bring a huge increase in pain to the US public. Revolution is a function of pain.
So if the Senate votes to pass this insanity also, the day that the federal government fails will just be that much closer.

I am wondering if it might make the senators re-evaluate their positions if over the weekend someone puts up a website with the names, faces and home addresses of the criminals who voted for this crap. First thing Monday morning they find emails and faxes and voice mail heralding this new web place.
Something like "WANTED FOR HIGH TREASON"
You tell me. Will it help? What will eventually cause the readjustment of power, the popping of the bubble? I watched Bohner for the hour he read from the bill, and really admired him for doing so. At least he pointed out to the public and in Congress a bunch of junk in the bill, or I thought what he was reading from was an ammendment that was passed out at 3am yesterday. Nevertheless, he exposed a bunch of stuff. What I thought was funny (but sad) was when the one Congressman (forget his name) asked if there was a copy of the bill on the floor, then people started scrambling to find or bring in a copy.
Eric Cantor did a terrible job
It's his responsibility as Republican whip to get all the repubs on board with the program. Eight of them got away and did their own thing.
They both did a terrible job keeping their party in line with the people's requests..
Without those eight repubs. the vote would have been 220 nays 211 ayes.
No reelection for those eight. If not a single one were reelected it would send a strong message that the people's demands should be listened to the next time

I'm somewhat encouraged by the Republicans resolve on this matter, it seems they are getting their principles more focused now that we have a Democrat in office...not enough too late, however. Most of the Democrats are completely lost on the idea of freedom...which is depressing.
