Fox News: Mr. Popular? Ron Paul Wins Supporters to Fed Sunshine Bill
Submitted by mdonato on Tue, 06/30/2009 - 09:32
All of a sudden, Congress is paying close attention to Ron Paul.
The feisty congressman from Texas, whose insurgent "Ron Paul Revolution" presidential campaign rankled Republican leaders last year, now has the GOP House leadership on his side -- backing a measure that generated paltry support when he first introduced it 26 years ago.
Paul, as of Tuesday, has won 245 co-sponsors to a bill that would require a full-fledged audit of the Federal Reserve by the end of 2010.
Paul attracted just 18 co-sponsors when he authored a similar bill, which died, in 1983. While the impact Fed policies have on inflation is once again a concern, fears about loose monetary policy and excessive federal spending appear even more widespread in 2009.
"In the past, I never got much support, but I think it's the financial crisis obviously that's drawing so much attention to it, and people want to know more about the Federal Reserve," Paul told FOXNews.com.
With the Federal Reserve holding interest rates at rock-bottom levels, pumping trillions into the economy and now poised to have new powers to oversee the financial system under President Obama's proposed regulatory overhaul, Paul said lawmakers want transparency.
"If they give them a lot more power and there's no more transparency, that'll be a disaster," he said.

Congress always paid attention to Ron Paul
But they didn't do anything to support him. McCain called him "the most honest man in Congress" and that is about as good as it gets.
But, as we know, Congress is an Old Boys' network, rife with CFR members who owe their allegiance to Rockefeller, the big corporations, and the Big Money guys. I am quite sure they secretly admire Ron Paul but lack the guts to break away from the network.
OR.....they were just cowards thinking about the money...
Staring at their penthouse suites and kitchen tables, realizing that the system is corrupt as can be but there's no reason to fight it......Otherwise they wouldn't be able to enjoy all those luxuries. :-)
And sadly I think that's how it really has been.....Representatives who lack the will power to do the right thing.

In no form WOULD we have ever allowed a Federal Reserve to come into play and take everything in our economy, in our lives, if we were not foolish beyond belief and also resigned to having any power to do something about it.....
Because if you look at its history.....Everything about this institution has been secret, since the beginning...
http://www.apfn.org/apfn/reserve.htm
What goes on there in the Fed stays at the Fed board....
"feisty congressman from Texas.."
Well that's a big change from "The quixotic Texas congressman.." that faux usually pushes..
If you wont fight for the right when you can easily win...you may...have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance for survival [or] when there is no chance of victory...it's better to perish than to live as slaves.

I'm beginning to wonder if
I'm beginning to wonder if Rupert Murdoch (or his employees) are having second thoughts about dumping on Ron during the primaries.
Regardless, his appearances are a big draw since the economic crash. He's one of the few in the political arena that can explain it in ways that make both good sense and good soundbites. And he has a following that is in a very desirable demographic for Fox advertisers. (Young people with money to spend.) So he brings in the eyeballs which bring in the add dollars.

Could be some funny business...
but, Beck again today gave Dr.Paul and 1207 some play. Fox has been running a ticker which promotes Dr.Paul and 1207. I'll take what I can get.
Look, guys. We don't win if
Look, guys. We don't win if we don't convert a bunch of people who USED to be of other political persuasions. And some of the very neocons who were dumping on him during the primaries are likelier converts than, say, Liberals - because they have fewer ideas that have to change to come around.
Don't be surprised if some of them are honestly starting to become Ron fans - at least on a few issues.
And also don't be surprised if only a few of their ideas have changed - at first. It takes a while to change enough to move to a different political cluster. But let them see the light on only one or two and they can become very valuable supporters. (And once they decide that Ron is on the ball on at least SOME things they'll be willing to consider some of his other positions - and listen to him enough to actually hear them. So changing one idea helps to change more.)
This is how politics makes strange bedfellows - followed by converts.

How interesting that on every other news story on Fox News you can leave comments, but not on the one about Ron Paul. Coincidence? Hmmmmm

Just for clarity for those finding the 404 from FoxNews (which is nothing unusual, because they invented 404 news!)
245 co-sponsors, that's more
245 co-sponsors, that's more than enough to pass a vote in the house. What's the hold-up?
Barney Frank is still sucking off the Fed...
And Congressman Frank chairs the committee where he is more than skittish to take any actions that would jeopardize his political gain......
Can't really trust Frank but we should still get this sailed through congress anyway for the next phase.
Barney Frank? B-)
Barney Frank? B-)

Perfectly Clear
There should be a better system of measuring the Feds performance rather then letting them grade themselves.
Good Point...
When Bernanke testified before Congress about 1207, he complained that it would give the GAO input into monetary decisions. Ben obviously doesn't understand what an audit is or he is playing dumb. As you said... an audit is a measure of the Fed's performance including a breakdown of their assets and liabilities and all the commitments made to foreign central banks. H.R. 1207 does nothing to give the GAO or Congress any control over monetary policy.
However if 1207 is signed into law and enforced, Ben knows that Congress and the American people will strip the Fed of just about every power they have because they will be so outraged. So in this area, maybe Bernanke does have some foresight.
faux-delegates?
In one line it says, ...faux-delegates wielding signs for their states.
FauxNews still reporting the way they usually do. They always have to take a little swipe at something, this time it was the supporters.

2010, we put our people in Congress
2012, we want our country back
I read this article this morning and was just like
What is FAUX up to?
Fox is also promoting (on their ticker) Dr.Paul's
HR 1207 and is giving favorable information including the 245 co-sponsers. I'll take it too.
I'll take that from Fox...
I'll take that from Fox...

wow.
that's great coverage.
now we should definitely focus our hr1207 efforts on the financial committee.
Unfortunately for Paul, the bill appears to be idling in the House Financial Services Committee, which is chaired by Barney Frank, D-Mass. The bill has been sitting there, gathering co-sponsors, since Paul introduced it in late February.
"You've kind of got to rely on the Democratic leadership (to move the bill along)," a Boehner aide said. "I haven't heard a lot of support from Chairman Frank."
Calls to Frank's office were not returned.
Paul acknowledged that his bill hasn't advanced but said Frank has "promised" him he will deal with his bill and is willing to give it a hearing. Paul said it's easily got the "momentum" to pass the full House.

Now is the time for us
to start advocating and rallying around the 'Vote them all out' philosophy. The ONLY way we are ever going to eliminate, or at least reduce, corruption, cronyism, special interest groups' stranglehold on Congress is to start by voting them all out. Term limits imposed by us. Other than Ron, it's hard to think of a Senator or Congressman who cares about anything but get reelected and getting rich in the process. The two-party system is corrupt and prevents us from electing honest people.

vote them out
The media attention could cause some of us to get sleepy... stay alert.
I remember when some RP supporters in caucus states traded their vote because they were promised more influence within their state GOP. How did that trade work out?
Stay focused and don't trade your ideals. Vote them out.
This is one of the headline stories on foxnews.com
At the top of the page in big letters: "Ron Paul - Mr. Sunshine?". Lots of people will see this. Nice!
Ron Paul handles life with his own hands. He gives us life.
As it turns out, his gentle side and genius of making it simple to understand is very attractive. I know, his wisdom has stopped me in my tracks, as I have been lied to and decieved my entire life.
I remember when the computer software programs were first being used by government . . . , the first thing I noticed on any large scale, was by Nancy Reagan, hailed very excitedly, right out of the gates, the use of "tracking software" on tax payers.
OK, that's what computers are good at, details, but at the time we were rallying against the massive and blind rhino of industrialization crush our environment and delete our small farmers.
Living things and creatures were being poisoned and extincting at alarming rates.
The fact that most laws were being circumvented and abused was just swept under the carpet as another real estate deal.
With the world wide stream of videos, the truth will set us on to a better way of living in this world . . . that is . . . living without a gun pointed at my with the constant fear mongering the media provides.
Ron Paul, Ron Paul, Ron Paul, so good to know you. You understand that life is fragile.
And never forget, “Humans, despite our artistic pretensions, our sophistication and many accomplishments, owe the fact of our existence to a six-inch layer of topsoil and the fact that it rains.”
All this popularity
really puts him in a perfect position to run for president again in 2012. Now he has the American people behind him.

I just wish we could turn
I just wish we could turn back the clock. I'm still hoping Jesse Ventura/Gary Johnson will run, but miracles happen and Ron Paul would definitely be the best candidate if it wasnt for age.
Ventura 2012
Age is of no importance.
Age, what are you talking about, he's only 73 years old. Besides, what's important is that he has people around him that act accordingly. One man cannot do it alone.
grant
I don't want him assassinated...no thanks.
Live to slay the beast with everyone else backing him seems like a better day to win....AMEX will keep going down, and his message will get out there this way.
Now we can
be glad he pushed for another term. At least there is one voice of reason and someone with guts, not beholding to lobbyists or to some other vice that would keep him from doing an honest, transparent job.
Good men are hard to find.
Ron Paul is a true statesman....
I just hope he doesn't run for 2012 unless he's got major bodyguards, because Sauron's army of the Fed will positively kill him off.....
In fact they can probably win more wars in the halls of the legislature now and state assembly. The executive isn't really worth it now...
And we don't need anymore martyrs....We need to kill the Reserve...
I wish all elected government representatives just
had one term in office, and then back out in the real world. Just think how this would lessen the "need for greed". The thought that career politicians bring stability and wisdom to the political arena is just pure garbage. Ron Paul stands as the only exception. If we bounced these bums out after one term, we would suddenly see a great shift away from PAC manipulation that grooms "their" man once in office.

Awesome!
Thomas Jefferson once said, "The natural progress of things is for liberty to yield and government to gain ground."
Well, I guess he called that one.
