Just got off of the phone with my NH 2 senators. Aides had no idea how they intend to vote on the UN connected global biometrix databasing & identification of facial recognition & PI called the Pass Act S1261 .

In 2005, Congress addressed the issue of national standards for drivers' licenses and personal identification cards by passing The REAL ID Act of 2005. The act contains a number of provisions relating to improved security for drivers' licenses and personal identification cards, as well as instructions for states that do not comply with its provisions. In general, while REAL ID does not directly impose federal standards with respect to states' issuance of drivers' licenses and personal identification cards, states nevertheless appear compelled to adopt such standards and modify any conflicting laws or regulations to continue to have such documents recognized by federal agencies for official purposes.

Since its adoption in 2005, REAL ID has been a highly contested issue among state legislatures and governors. To address the shortcomings of REAL ID, I chose to cosponsor the Providing for Additional Security in States’ Identification Act of 2009, otherwise known as the PASS ID Act. The PASS ID Act mitigates and corrects critical privacy and security flaws in REAL ID while still establishing minimum federal standards for the issuance of driver’s licenses and ID cards. I believe the Act will enhance the security and integrity of driver’s licenses and identification cards while reducing the costs of implementation.

The Pass ID act has currently been referred to the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, on which I serve. Be assured that I will hold your views in mind when this issue comes up for a vote.

I will continue to listen closely to what you and other Illinoisans have to say about matters before Congress, the concerns of our communities, and the issues facing Illinois and the nation. My job is not about merely supporting or opposing legislation; it is also about bridging the divide that has paralyzed our nation's politics.

I just finished reading a release on Yahoo! news entitled, "Chips in official IDs raise privacy fears". The article is about the "hackability" of the new PASS IDs. Link here. Here's an excerpt:

"Climbing into his Volvo, outfitted with a Matrics antenna and a Motorola reader he'd bought on eBay for $190, Chris Paget cruised the streets of San Francisco with this objective: To read the identity cards of strangers, wirelessly, without ever leaving his car.

Embedding identity documents — passports, drivers licenses, and the like — with RFID chips is a no-brainer to government officials."

Is PASS already being used in California? If so, where else is it in production?
