Vehicle question for Liberty Luvver
I'm about to buy a new car. So I asked a dealership for the Manufacturers Statement of Origin and he said their policy is to send it in to get the Title for me. They don't give it to the owner because they "fear" the owner is transporting out of the country and selling their cars outside the country. I THINK they said they would give me a copy of it, not sure, I think I remember that.
When there was a forum here at DP before that suggested we get the MSO, it suggested not buying the vehicle in Texas, where I live, but in Arkansas because Texas won't give us the MSO, but Arkansas will.
What is the real tangible purpose of having the MSO other than exercising our rights and possibly avoiding having to register my vehicle?
The thing is Freedom is not FREE and I am not a person who will fight the system on the level of not paying registration because that helps pay for our roads and I am ok with that. I don't want to be stopped by police because I don't have a plate (not sure that I would not be getting a plate if I asked for the MSO) or a registration sticker.
So, do I really benefit any from going to Arkansas to buy a vehicle, that too is a hassle. On the other hand, I don't want to just roll over and play dead and leave ownership with whomever for their benefit at my detriment.
Anyone with words of wisdom here on this issue.
I think if I decided to ship my car out of the country, which I could possibly do some day, that having the MSO causes fewer problems and a decrease in the tariff taxes or something?
