Problem is the attitute of the customers
At the end of the day the problem is the attitute of the customers. If Peter Schiff doesn't like talking to an answering machine, then why does he keep doing business with that company? Ultimately the consumers are defining the standards by their purchasing decisions.
Tell the business owner that you think he is an asocial punk and that you expect better service (and are [if needed] willing to pay for it).
Especially the stuff in the bracket is important. Of course it's clear that service costs money. But this doesn't necessarily mean to get rid of any service in the name of price. The inverse is also possible and I myself consider such points when doing purchasing decisions.
Not sure how to donate
Hi All,
Back a while ago I pledged to support Schiff at some site. I can't remember anymore. In any case in this video he wants to judge actual support. I am willing to donate money now. The problem is that when I go to the schiffforsenate site I don't see any method for donating? Can someone help me out.
Thanks,
Roger Hermann

Does anyone really think a kid with a paper route should earn a wage high enough to support a family?"
Isn't that the truth, nowdays it is somehow responsible and pushed on to people to just start a family without thinking how you are going to support it. I am 26 and my wife and I have not had a child yet because I want to have a certain amout of money, the right home, and job before I do. How stupid of me.
Buchanan quote
"The contrast between insouciant America and serious China today is instructive. China is protectionist; America free trade. China is nationalist; America globalist. China’s economy is export-driven; America’s base is consumption. China saves; America spends. China uses its foreign exchange to lock up overseas resources; America uses foreign aid for humanitarian assistance to failed states. Behaving like ruthlessly purposeful 19th-century Americans, China grows as America shrinks."

Interesting video
I never looked at the minimum wage law like Peter explained. Without the law, I could see more jobs being created. The only drawback I see though, is living expenses ie, rent, mortgage, food, traveling, etc will not adjust themselves to a increasing majority of lower paid workers coming onboad. A person might have to work 2 low paying jobs just to keep up and then they might not even be able to get any time off to relax for a day or 2.

You might be incorrect in
You might be incorrect in that assumption. Lets say you are a landlord but your pool of prospective tenants cannot afford your rent - you will lower it until someone rents it.
good point....
i was thinking the same thing - but then i read Schiff's article "Minimum Wage, Maximum Stupidity" and he does a great clearing it up:
"...many low-skilled jobs that used to be the first rung on the employment ladder have been priced out of the market. Can you remember the last time an usher showed you to your seat in a dark movie theater? When was the last time someone other than the cashier not only bagged your groceries, but also loaded them into your car? By the way, it won’t be long before the cashiers themselves are priced out of the market, replaced by automated scanners, leaving you to bag your purchases with no help whatsoever.
The disappearance of these jobs has broader economic and societal consequences. First jobs are a means to improve skills so that low skilled workers can offer greater productivity to current or future employers. As their skills grow, so does their ability to earn higher wages. However, remove the bottom rung from the employment ladder and many never have a chance to climb it."
he continues,
"..Supporters of the minimum wage argue that it is impossible to support a family on the minimum wage. While that is true, it is completely irrelevant, as minimum wage jobs are not designed to support families. In fact, many people earning the minimum wage are themselves supported by their parents.
The way it is supposed to work is that people do not choose to start families until they can earn enough to support them. Lower wage jobs enable workers to eventually acquire the skills necessary to earn wages high enough to support a family. Does anyone really think a kid with a paper route should earn a wage high enough to support a family?"
while i agree 100% with Schiff on this; i think to give the incentive for young chillren to work and grow their skills, there must be a gold standard. i mean i would definitely encourage my (future) kid to work a low-wage job if he was getting paid in gold instead of these Federal Reserve Notes... they're shit :(
Minimum Wage law is an evil law....
Entrusted to Bankers, for Bankers, to the benefit of Bankers.
It's a compassionate law...
that keeps poor people poor. I run a business and because of the employer base in my town I must pay my workers way above minumum wage. The local employer strata sets the "average wage" in my town at a higher level than "minumum wage". My employees earn between $13.00/hr (low end) up to $18.00/hr (high end). I would never ever think of paying an employee "minumum wage", it would be an insult to them and an embarrassment to me. BTW, you get what you pay for.
minimum wage discussion
you know. i just had this discussion with one of my libertarian friends on this subject about 6 months ago. he told me that abolishing the minimum wage was a good idea. and, to his astonishment, i stearnly disagreed with him. i said if a company can't even pay somebody a measly $6 bucks an hour, then I'm sorry. Too bad so sad. they should probably reorganize their company to make it more efficient, or pack their bags and get out of the country. i said, in the end, i would agree that eliminating the minimum wage would be a good thing in a free society, but it certainly wouldn't be first on my list. i said that it is a pretty harmless law that does a good job protectong the consumer from corporatism and slavery in the mean time. for example, there are a ton of jobs that barely pay minimum wage. mcdonalds, for example, only paid minimum wage and the very fact that they paying exactly minimum wage is absolute proof that the only reason they are even paying that much is because they "have to." it's by no coincidence. so i acknowledged that it was a band-aid fix that ultimately should be killed but i was totally unsympathetic to the libertarian pleads of a utopian free society. i thought returning to sound money and ending the illusion that corporations are people are of utmost importance. (that way donations and political lobby must be done under the same laws that governs the rest of us.) so, in my mind, eliminating the minimum wage should "wait."
that just changed. after hearing peter schiff talk about minimum wage i was instantly converted. and now i feel like a fool for even thinking otherwise.
The only thing that worries me is that we have limited funds.
Rand's is obviously the cheaper Senate race. I worry that by donating to both, neither will get there funding, and both will loose, where as if we just focus on 1 race, that race could win.
Rand's is obviously the cheaper race, so my money's going to him first. If I tap out, then I'll consider donating to Schiff.
Good luck to him to though.
Tracy
dude
we got this...
It is so important
that the money come from within the districts. Money alone does not mean a win. Money from within a district means votes. More important than money is doing something to spread the word in the districts. Money helps do that, but so does time spent in some mailing or calling project.
Oh?
You might be right but why is Kentucky the cheaper race? Connecticut is smaller in land and population than Kentucky. Connecticut is a more expensive state to live but it has fewer TV stations, radio stations and newspapers.
It's cheaper because
Dodd can raise a lot of money...Rand's opponents wont raise nearly as much
Let's not forget the racist origin of minimum wages in the USA.
The first minimum wage laws were enacted because white factory workers didn't want competition from blacks migrating from the south. If you look up the record of the congressional debates about the minimum wage, they're quite blatant about it.

Americans go for freedom, the constitution, and sound money?
I don't know.

Yeah, I really liked that part too!
Ron Paul's Convention Speech
As soon as
The donation feature pops up for the website I say we need a mini bomb to show our support.
Agreed!
When is the first money bomb good for everyone??
Hopefully they get the
donation link up there soon. It was supposed to go up Thursday. I say as soon as it's up we all just throw in $25.
He said he would refund ALL donations not used if he decides not to run for senate...which is awesome.
$25
my thought exactly. I just checked today (Saturday) and donation button is not up.
Cool
Schiff will make a great Senator.
Love this man's ideas
I think he should be more selective about sharing them.
look at and learn from the Demopukes. They appealed to the main stream to get elected then sold out to their true agenda once in power.
I am not saying lie, but maybe not deal so much in specifics, especially specifics that will turn the uninformed people off.
Here I disagree. The main reason Ron Paul
has such an impact today is because he consistently and persistently told the absolute truth in a clear way understandable to the average person. The media blackout hurt us; most people couldn't hear the message. But those that did slowly grew into a force for freedom, with many working every spare moment to spread the message through the grassroots.
Freedom candidates are now getting some press because the ground has been prepared already by Paul and supporters; and because sound money forecasts are looking more believable due to the Bush/Obama failures.
Not just in our country, but the whole world now has access to the ideas of freedom, presented clearly, honestly, with specifics by Paul, the Austrians, etc. Using dishonest, evasive, pandering tactics as the fascists do would destroy us.
We have the moral high ground, believability, and common sense. If we gain mainstream momentum it will be due to our credibility and appeal to the practical and idealistic together.
Schiff for Senate!!!
Man, I would love to see him make a run. He and Rand both in the Senate at the same time would be epic. I wonder if Schiff's campaign will accept donations in foreign currencies or commodities?? haha
How Would He Explain
His father's 16 year sentence for income tax evasion???

Switzerland no minimum wage, yet $15/h
In Switzerland there are no laws, but business feel guilty for not paying much. Hence, servers make $15 an hour, and then food prices go up. So therefore, to eat out costs a lot. At least twice as much as US.
Well if a business opens up
Well if a business opens up that pays their servers less than $15/hr- food will be cheaper and that business would win out. Has this never happened in switzerland?
What if their service is
What if their service is worse? Then that business loses.
But what if the work environment was better than the others and great servers preferred to work there for $10/hr? Then that business would be rewarded with higher profits.

As much as I respect Mr. Schiff, and I agree with a part of.....
......his minimum wage theory, I think the real problem is greed. In his example he is talking about hiring someone for $5 an hour, what he is not mentioning are the dozens of administrators and management types who produce next to nothing and are getting paid $100 an hour. They are the problem. People paying workers less than what they need to eat is the problem. Illegal workers artificially keeping the pay low are the problem.
You're wrong. A business
You're wrong. A business cannot overpay its workers for long periods of time. A bunch of workers can't be paid $100 an hour for producing $10 an hour average of revenue. A private business would go bankrupt (run out of money) very quickly doing that. And if you think executives overpaying themselves at the expense of their workers' wages is problem, I gaurantee you that a business which has that will lose marketshare to a business that doesn't, because the business that doesn't will be able to offer lower prices or buy more workers/equipment. Look at all the companies that WOULD have gone bankrupt from overpaying their employees and themselves the past year. The market would have flushed them out, but the government seized money from productive individuals to keep them afloat longer.
"People paying workers less
"People paying workers less than what they need to eat is the problem."
If the worker feels they are not getting paid enough then they can inquire about a raise or move on to another job.Keeping wages low isn't a good way to keep workers that excel in their job, thus you have a revolving door of constantly new employees, slow production and unhappy workers. If this company could somehow make an agreement with the government to keep competition or other businesses from establishing in this area, than they have a monopoly over the people, unless those people relocate. The problem here is the government showing favoritism to the detriment of the people in the area.

"...we are face to face with the problem whether ours is a government under a written constitution and the laws made pursuant thereto, or whether it is a government by ambitious and usurping men.'" -- F.Pierce
Greed is great Demolay!
See The Virtue of Greed by Walter Williams.
So are what you call "illegal" workers! They allow a business owner to pay less in salaries, making their business more profitable.
No- the problem is the
No- the problem is the purchasing power of the currency, that's why people can't afford to eat on a few dollars. People pay workers whatever they agree to work for- illegal workers don't "artifically" keep pay low, where'd you come up with that?
Administrators and management types get paid for a reason- just because you think they don't do work that's important doesn't make it true. If a company is seriously paying a lot of money to management types that don't do any work- they will go under, simply put. Outside of government intervention of course.
That's not a good reason to
That's not a good reason to oppose immigration. If people want to work for lower wages, they should be allowed to. The problem with immigration is the ones that want to come here for free socialist stuff, not the ones who come here to work.
