Sorry, I'm a fan of Peter Schiff and like a lot of what he says, but I think he has a pretty weak argument here. He's trying to convince us that it is unfair to "price" people out of the wonderful job opportunities that he described. While I do not agree with the concept of minimum wage, it should be the LAST thing to go in terms of government control on the economy. If it wasn't for that, employers would cut wages to ridiculous lows. I think the concept here is that every human being's time and labor should be worth some minimum, agreed upon amount. Doesn't matter if you're washing dishes or carrying bags, nobody should have to resort to working for so little money its barely worth the gas it takes to drive to work on. I personally like the fact that we don't have people carrying our bags and holding flashlights. Our society should be progressing so that we do not demean human beings to such trivial tasks.
If the the wage isn't worth the job then you don't do it.
Higher skilled jobs will demand higher wages. That's the way the market works. He didn't say: "it's unfair to "price" people out of the wonderful job opportunities" He says: It's unfair to "price" people out of job opportunities." Peter Schiff was right... again.

Technology has a lot to do
Technology has a lot to do with the creative destruction process that he talks about. In 100 years from today, I don't see any human being working in front of a cash register... Self checkout and possibly robotic bagging machines will replace human beings.
However, there is something to be said about how having minimum wage laws inhibits domestic manufacturing.
If we didn't have minimum wage laws, we'd have a lot more American factories hiring unskilled workers to work on assembly lines... There would be factories that pay the workers $2/hour, house them, and feed them. After 5 years or so of hard work they could have enough savings to move on to bigger and better things.
Today, the unskilled worker is out of a job, homeless and collecting welfare checks. I'd much rather give them a job for low pay, instead of no job and welfare.

What do you do if a job isn't worth the minimum wage to a company? The person doesn't get the job. So what's better having a job that pays a little below minimum wage or having no job at all?

I like the story about the 1 skilled painter vs the 3 unskilled painters. An additional point Peter could make is that when the 1 skilled painter is hired at $15/hr over the 3 at $6/hr, a good portion of that money will be taxed to pay the unemployment of the 3 unskilled workers that weren't hired.

And now to Peter Schiff. How refreshing to hear someone say 'they promise nothing' but to get the government off your back! That is all I need to hear. I don't want a politician making promises to everyone they meet, afterall those promises cost me money. The ones who make no promise, except to respect their oath of office are the ones I will be supporting. It's been far too long that Dr. Paul has been the lone voice, the lone 'NO' vote. Dr. No needs some interns.
