Merry Christmas Everyone! Forgiveness: The Greatest Gift You Can Give Yourself.

To all the Daily Paul family, members, posters, silent lurkers, accidental drive-bys, and even trolls: Merry Christmas! Be safe on this holiday; storm's coming.

Something we often forget, but that deserves a reminder especially at this time of year, is the power of forgiveness. Holding on to hatred, anger, regret only hurts yourself. Give yourself the greatest gift of all - the gift of forgiveness.

The Crucifixion of Chuck Hagel: Will Washington's Pharisees Get Their Man?

This Christmas is a bleak one for those who hold out hope that there might be peace on earth — or just a more peaceful earth.

In the Middle East, wars and rumors of war roil an already volatile region. A proxy war in Syria shows every sign of metastasizing into a larger, regional conflict, with the protagonists — Syria’s Ba’athist regime and the US-supported jihadists of the rebel army — digging in for a long fight. After the conclusion of the Israeli attack on Gaza, which was turned into a shooting gallery by the IDF, the region is smoldering with a murderous hatred. Iraq still bleeds, and there are low-profile but high-casualty conflicts in Yemen, Bahrain, and Pakistan — conflicts where the US is a major player.

And looming over it all is the prospect of The Big One — war with Iran.

For the past five or six years, the propaganda campaign against Iran has been going full speed: the neoconservatives, a small but influential faction within the Republican party (albeit with several Democratic fellow-travelers), have been agitating for a US attack on Tehran, just as loudly and insistently as they clamored for war with Iraq.

“The teams will be limited to training and equipping efforts, and will not be permitted to conduct military operations without specific, additional approvals from the secretary of defense,” reports the Associated Press.

Paul Craig Roberts: The Greatest Gift For All

Christmas is a time of traditions. If you have found time in the rush before Christmas to decorate a tree, you are sharing in a relatively new tradition. Although the Christmas tree has ancient roots, at the beginning of the 20th century only 1 in 5 American families put up a tree. It was 1920 before the Christmas tree became the hallmark of the season. Calvin Coolidge was the first President to light a national Christmas tree on the White House lawn.

Gifts are another shared custom. This tradition comes from the wise men or three kings who brought gifts to baby Jesus. When I was a kid, gifts were more modest than they are now, but even then people were complaining about the commercialization of Christmas. We have grown accustomed to the commercialization. Christmas sales are the backbone of many businesses. Gift giving causes us to remember others and to take time from our harried lives to give them thought.

The decorations and gifts of Christmas are one of our connections to a Christian culture that has held Western civilization together for 2,000 years.

In our culture the individual counts. This permits an individual person to put his or her foot down, to take a stand on principle, to become a reformer and to take on injustice.

Ron Paul (R-TX) has officially come out against the NRA’s statements, slamming the lobbying organization’s proposals by saying that “government security is just another kind of violence.” ...

Rand Paul's Mideast Trip Fuels Presidential Speculation

WASHINGTON — In another sign that he may be considering a White House bid, U.S. Sen. Rand Paul is planning a trip next year to Israel, accompanied by activists from Iowa and South Carolina — two key states in any Republican presidential campaign.

Paul — a Kentuckian who has said he is considering a 2016 presidential run but has made no decision — is looking to make his first trip to Israel and Jordan sometime in the new year, he said in an interview. He didn’t specify the date, citing security reasons.

He has confirmed meetings with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Israeli President Shimon Peres, as well as with several government ministers and members of the Knesset, according to the senator’s office. Paul also is arranging meetings with Mahmoud Abbas, president of the Palestinian National Authority, Jordan’s King Abdullah and others.

Fiscal Cliff Charade: Dems and Republicans Both Seek Middle Class Tax Hike

Both parties are pretending to ask for different things when in reality both are looking to raise taxes on the only real source of income - the middle class. These are the people who actually work and create wealth.

The entire Plan A, Plan B, trying to make a deal in all an act to make us think they are doing something.

My prediction is the tax cuts will expire and both parties will blame the other for letting it happen.

Ron Paul's Texas Straight Talk 12/24/2012: Government Security is Just Another Kind of Violence

By Ron Paul | December 24, 2012

The senseless and horrific killings last week in Newtown, Connecticut reminded us that a determined individual or group of individuals can cause great harm no matter what laws are in place. Connecticut already has restrictive gun laws relative to other states, including restrictions on fully automatic, so-called “assault” rifles and gun-free zones.

Predictably, the political left responded to the tragedy with emotional calls for increased gun control. This is understandable, but misguided. The impulse to have government “do something” to protect us in the wake national tragedies is reflexive and often well intentioned. Many Americans believe that if we simply pass the right laws, future horrors like the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting can be prevented. But this impulse ignores the self evident truth that criminals don't obey laws.

The political right, unfortunately, has fallen into the same trap in its calls for quick legislative solutions to gun violence. If only we put armed police or armed teachers in schools, we’re told, would-be school shooters will be dissuaded or stopped.

"Murdoch’s Bid to Buy the US Presidency."

Rupert Murdoch’s Bid to Persuade Gen. David Petraeus to Run as Republican Candidate in the 2012 Presidential Election - Why the Washington Post killed the story of Murdoch’s bid to buy the US presidency

By Jonathan Cook | Global Research, December 21, 2012

Carl Bernstein, of All the President’s Men fame, has a revealing commentary in the Guardian today, though revealing not entirely in a way he appears to understand. Bernstein highlights a story first disclosed earlier this month in the Washington Post by his former journalistic partner Bob Woodward that media mogul Rupert Murdoch tried to “buy the US presidency”.

A taped conversation shows that in early 2011 Murdoch sent Roger Ailes, the boss of his most important US media outlet, Fox News, to Afghanistan to persuade Gen David Petraeus, former commander of US forces, to run against Barack Obama as the Republican candidate in the 2012 presidential election. Murdoch promised to bankroll Petraeus’ campaign and commit Fox News to provide the general with wall-to-wall support.

Guns may kill 12,000 per year, but Hospitals kill 195,000.

A few questions for Gun Control advocates:

If 12,000 gun deaths a year is reason enough to ban guns, then what about 195,000 medical malpractice deaths a year?

There are only 690,000 doctors in the United States, and between 150-200 million gun owners in the United States, is it not statistically true that doctors are more dangerous than gun owners?

Using this same standard, should we ban hospitals?

What about 32,000 deaths from automotive accidents, should we ban cars?

Why are guns a higher priority than motor vehicle fatalities, or medical malpractice fatalities?

Someone could say "Ah ha! But we need cars and hospitals, we don't need guns!"
