Homeowner halts crime spree, WAFB, Baton Rouge, La. January 18, 2013
Jeffersonville, Ind. homeowner Mike Dreyer was allowing his ex-wife to stay in a storage building on his property, when two burglars attempted to break into the shed. The ex-wife was inside when the thieves struck at 4:30 a.m., and used her cell phone to alert Dreyer, who was across the property in his home, to the threat. Dreyer retrieved a gun, came out of the house and confronted the criminals. Upon seeing the gun, one of the thieves dropped to the ground, while the other fled over a fence. After a brief standoff with the criminal who had jumped the fence, Dyer managed to call the police and hold the remaining burglar at gunpoint until they arrived. Clark County Chief Deputy Prosecutor Jeremy Mull told media that the captured criminal and his partner were on a crime spree before reaching Dreyer’s property. Mull went on to alert burglars to the dangers of their behavior, warning that “many more homeowners are now armed.”

How to respond to an anti Conspiracy Theorist

"You sound like a conspiracy theorist."

RESPONSE: "Let me get this straight. Are you saying that men in high positions of power are not capable of criminal activity and telling lies to the general public? Are you really that naive?"
(Laugh as you say this.)

"I'm not saying that governments don't lie, but a conspiracy like that would have to involve 100's of people. You can't hide something like that."

RESPONSE: "You're absolutely right. I agree with you 100%. It is impossible to totally cover up a conspiracy so massive. That's why I know about it! What you must understand is that they don't have to cover it up totally. Even a bucket that has a few leaks can still do the job of carrying water from here to there! They only need to fool 80% of the public, which isn't hard to do when you control the major networks and newspapers. The 10-20% that do figure it out can be easily marginalized with the label "conspiracy theorist." The 80% + will never take the critical thinkers seriously because they want to be part of the majority. This is known as groupthink.

"Not everything that happens in the world is a conspiracy!"

Union membership falls to 70 year low

By David Shepardson | Detroit News Washington Bureau | January 23, 2013

Washington — The nation's unions lost 400,000 members in 2012 as the percentage of U.S. workers represented by a labor union fell to 11.3 percent, its lowest level since the 1930s - declining by 0.5 percent over the last year.

Michigan accounted for about 10 percent of the nation's loss of unionized workers as the Wolverine State fell to the seventh most-unionized state, from fifth in 2011.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics said the biggest hit was in public sector unions, where many states and cities have cut back on their unionized workforce.

Troubling exchange on Facebook - or rather, an Eye Opening Exchange

I recently jumped back onto Facebook (I know. I know.) I had an almost surreal experience last night. One of my "friends" from Massachusetts back from I don't know when - I haven't seen this guy in over 20 years - posted that he truly did not understand how the "right-ies" thought they had grounds for impeachment of Obama. He didn't understand it considering the positive changes that have been made in the past 4 years.

Ron Paul has no plans to endorse in RNC chairman’s race

Even though a Republican from the libertarian wing of the party is making a last minute bid for chairman of the Republican National Committee, former Texas congressman Ron Paul does not intend to make an endorsement in the race.

“As far as the RNC goes, he has no plans to endorse,” Megan Stiles, a Paul spokesman, told The Daily Caller on Tuesday.

Mark Willis, a RNC committeeman and former Ron Paul delegate from Maine, recently announced that he’s challenging chairman Reince Priebus for his job, and a group of ardent Paul supporters have been pushing his candidacy online.

Update: House Votes 285-144 To Raise Debt Ceiling 4 Months; Now Unlimited?

[The can has been kicked again.]
House votes to defuse debt limit crisis
House votes overwhelmingly to defuse debt crisis, decides to increase borrowing limit
By Andrew Taylor – 1-23-2013, 2:00 ET

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The House overwhelmingly passed a bill Wednesday to permit the government to borrow enough money to avoid a first-time default for at least four months, defusing a looming crisis setting up a springtime debate over taxes, spending and the deficit.

The House passed the measure on a bipartisan 285-144 vote as majority Republicans back away from their previous demand that any increase in the government's borrowing cap be paired with an equivalent level of spending cuts.

Why Rand Paul Is Wrong On Government Default

According to his website, conveniently named RandPaul2016.com (and yes, I know that the “2016″ is theoretically referencing his future Senate reelection bid in 2016 but….come on), Senator Rand Paul yesterday introduced the Default Prevention Act as a response to the latest iteration of the “debt ceiling debate”. Of course we’ve seen this show before, and we know how it ends: with the debt ceiling being raised after some sort of “compromise” is reached, where both sides cross-their-hearts-and-hope-to-die promise to fix the budget problems the country is facing next time.

RNC’s Priebus Endorses Plan To Rig Electoral College

If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.

That appears to be Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus’ philosophy when it comes to rigging elections in the GOP’s favor. In 2012, the strategy was suppressing votes through voter ID laws, ending same-day voter registration, and clamping down on early voting, among other restrictive legislation. According to the Brennan Center for Justice, 25 laws and two executive actions were passed in 19 states over the past two years with the aim of making it harder to vote.

In 2013, the plan appears to be changing the way that votes are counted. Priebus has stepped forward as the latest Republican to support a proposal that would split Wisconsin’s electoral votes by congressional district.

Welcome Mark Willis - for New RNC Chair - Sensational Republican Liberty Candidate

Mark Willis is a highly qualified Republican Liberty Candidate who will bring great governance to the RNC Chair. He has a Master's degree in communications and served 5 years in counter-intelligence in the United States Military.

Mark Willis is a patriot and will bring honor and fairness to the Republican Party bring in new members unlike Reince Priebus who is destroyed the Republican Party connection to the grassroots in the last Presidential election cycle and staged a convention which broke so many rules that it made the party the laughing stock of the world.

Daily Paul members, what have you been doing to further the message?

In the wake of the Sandy Hook massacre, I've seen hundreds of threads on the front page of conspiracies on the issue. I'm not condemning those in any way, I love to see people questioning the official story.

But, I've seen very few threads about what the website started out as, a grassroots central for activists and freedom lovers that just so happened to form a rag-tag group of principled individuals who banded together under the common banner for Dr. Ron Earnest Paul's presidential campaigns.

With the disheartening state of affairs going on in the world, it's easy to get distracted and lose track of our shared goals; More liberty, less government, more freedom.

So here I am to ask a simple question; What have you been doing lately to further the message?

This isn't a brag/bash thread. The cause of liberty takes and needs many forms; big and small, anarchist and/or political, ect.

Appeals Court Rules in Favor of DEA and Schedule I on Marijuana's Classification

Reason.com: The U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for Washington, D.C. ruled today in favor of the DEA's decision to keep marijuana a Schedule I drug--a classification for substances that are highly addictive and have no widely accepted medical benefits.

"On the merits, the question before the court is not whether marijuana could have some medical benefits," reads the court's ruling in Americans for Safe Access v. Drug Enforcement Administration. Rather, the court was tasked with deciding whether the DEA was following its own rules in refusing to initiate reschedule proceedings for marijuana.
