Taxes or Tolls on the Trans Texas Corridor
Posted February 25th, 2008 by manystromby Ron Paul | February 24, 2008
Texas Straight Talk
One major concern I discussed a few weeks ago regarding the Trans Texas Corridor is where the land will come from. Another concern is where the money will come from. Official government websites for the TTC assure that public-private partnerships will shield the taxpayer from bearing too much of the cost burden, but a careful reading shows the door is definitely open to public funding sources, while at the same time there is no doubt of the intention to charge tolls on the road.
Taxpayers already pay for their transportation system through hefty gasoline taxes, vehicle registration fees, and other fees. They have every right to expect the roads they have already paid for to be properly maintained and toll-free.
However, private foreign corporations have flocked to this country eager to participate in toll collection on our poorly managed toll roads, and they make a lot of money doing so. Taking over the management and maintenance of an existing toll road is one thing. Converting taxpayer built roads into cash cows for big corporations is quite another. Using eminent domain to take privately owned land, and taxpayer funding to build a highway that is designed to bring in private revenue is nothing short of highway robbery.

How Lincoln the Underdog Won the Brokered Convention of 1860
Posted February 7th, 2008 by manystromThank you to Give me Liberty, for the original post.
Though this article doesn't state it, I believe Lincoln only had 22 delegates (someone correct me if I am wrong) going into the convention and he was the underdog......sound familiar?......And guess who wound up winning?
One of the most interesting American political stories involves the nomination of Abraham Lincoln to be the Republican party's candidate for President of the United States in 1860. This was the Republican party's second presidential convention, and the man everyone expected to receive the nomination was the powerful and well-known William H. Seward of New York.
Abraham Lincoln, although having recently been introduced to eastern audiences through a series of political speeches in New England, and prior to that having gained some fame due to his participation in "the Great Debates" with Stephen A. Douglas, was not considered a serious contender for the appointment. How he and his political team brought him from "dark horse" contender to the victor is the subject of the following article.

After you've been inspired, then click here to read an excellent article on how the delegate system works, and how we just might be able to pull a Lincoln!
Ron Paul National Delegate Count Now 42 or More
Posted February 6th, 2008 by manystromFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE | February 6, 2008
ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA – With the results of many of the “Super Tuesday” primaries and caucuses now finalized, the Ron Paul campaign is now projecting that it has at least 42 delegates to the national convention secured.
While much of the focus in yesterday’s Super Tuesday contests focused on preference poll numbers, Ron Paul caucus-goers were focused on securing delegates to the national convention. With dedicated supporters and an organization focused purely on securing delegates, the campaign has secured more delegates to the national convention in Minneapolis-St. Paul than caucus straw polls might otherwise suggest.
According to campaign projections, a minimum of 24 delegates were won in yesterday’s contests. When added to projected delegates coming from strong showings in Iowa (4), Nevada (8), Louisiana (3) and Maine (3), that brings the total delegate count to 42 delegates or more.
Why Ron Paul did *best* in NH
Posted February 6th, 2008 by Jane AitkenHere, thanks to some number crunchers from the FSP who live in NH, is another way to see that NH actually did have a higher percent that one might think:
First, NO other state with a Primary shows Ron Paul Paul over 7%
New Hampshire - 8%
New York - 7%
Michigan & Tennessee - 6%
Before any results were in, Jason Sorens, FSP founder, stated:
Washington State - Your Help is Needed
Posted February 5th, 2008 by Jane AitkenUpdate: The election is NOT over. Ron Paul is a 'frontrunner' in Washington State. The press have been good to him there, according to TJ who wanted me to add this link to my post.
To all supporters in Washington State or those who might see a way to get out there, here is an appeal from TJ, who is heading up the Gold Rush effort there and needs your help before the Feb 9th Caucuses:
Put Eric on Jay Leno!
Posted February 2nd, 2008 by Jane AitkenI was so touched by this man's handsome voice and the touching words of his song that I had an idea. Folks let's get this man on Jay Leno the night before Super Tuesday! I grew up in the same area with Leno and he didn't know me but I hope that the mention of the hometown will get me some attention on this one!
Please write to Jay here:

Keeping the Revolution Alive
Posted January 31st, 2008 by Jane AitkenOn my website I have devoted a section to this cause. Right now it just has a few suggestions but I am open to more. I will also post resources that people send me. One idea I was sent today is the dissemination of this new book by Ron Paul. It isn't asking for money, just that you buy the book and then perhaps tell others or lend it to others! I plan to buy a few and hand them out to influential locals.
Peter Schiff Named Economic Advisor to Campaign
Posted January 26th, 2008 by manystromARLINGTON, VIRGINIA – Newly appointed Ron Paul economic advisor, Peter Schiff, issued the following statement about Dr. Paul’s proposed comprehensive economic revitalization plan:
“We need a plan that stimulates savings and production not more of the reckless borrowing and consumption that got us into this mess in the first place. Ron Paul’s plan is the only one that amounts to a step in the right direction. If you want meaningful change - for the better that is - Ron Paul is the only candidate capable of delivering it. The others merely promise to continue the failed policies that are at the root of our current economic problems.”
