On Home Turf, Romney Prevails in Straw Poll

Mitt Romney didn’t disappoint on his home turf this weekend, receiving 51 percent of the votes at the Michigan Straw Poll, a wide victory over Texas Gov. Rick Perry who garnered just 17 percent.

Politico - Michigan Rep. Justin Amash is backing Ron Paul for President

Michigan Rep. Justin Amash, who's earned a reputation for bucking his party, is backing Ron Paul for president, POLITIO's Dan Hirschhorn reports.

From the statement, in which Amash calls Paul a "top contender" for the presidency and a "mentor:"

“No person in public office has done more to secure the liberty of the American people than Dr. Ron Paul.

Michigan Republican Gov Rick Snyder to require BMI reports on kids

The Associated Press has learned that Republican Gov. Rick Snyder plans to direct doctors in Michigan to begin monitoring the body weight of their young patients and provide the data to a new state registry in what would be one of the most extensive government efforts to address pediatric obesity.

Snyder spokeswoman Sara Wurfel tells the AP that the move would help track the state's growing obesity problem while opening the way for doctors to be more proactive in offering advice.

Mackinac Bridge "RonPaul" Walk

For anyone in the Michigan area (and some of the nearby states as well!) There is an annual Labor Day walk across the Mackinac Bridge (the tenth largest suspension bridge in the world) xxx.mackinacbridge.org/annual-bridge-walk-7/ Since it is on Monday, I would be wearing my new, red Ron Paul shirt anyway, but I think that it could be a great way to "advertise" to the tens of thousands of people who walk this bridge every year (and hopefully have a few conversations)... I just remembered its pretty cold up there; you might prefer a Ron Paul hoodie, instead.
